As had been announced: The Struggle Continues . Press workers have 'gone down arms "and as we said last Sunday at the major rally at the Plaza on September 24, continue to mobilize to ensure that items 16 and 23 of the Act against Racism and All Forms of Discrimination are repealed and also defend 'swashbuckling' the validity of the Press Law. The latter Act, in force since January 19, 1925, provides that municipal councils or boards have the power to shape the press tribunal, composed of 40 leading citizens in the capital city and 20 in the provinces.
To this end, representatives of the Federation of Press Workers of Santa Cruz, led by its executive secretary, Roberto Carlos Hurtado, yesterday morning visited the City Council requesting a public hearing to support the creation of the Jury Printing and regulate a form of journalism. These were received by President of Council, Desiree Bravo and Councilman Manuel Saavedra.
Bravo said there Ordinance 343/2003 that establishes how the Press Tribunal on the basis of 40 leading citizens. And if you have a disability, the City Council has the power to propose names and define the leaderless within 15 working days. "We want the Government to listen to all Bolivians feel that freedom of expression is threatened. The law says that councils across the country should set up these courts to be formed with meritorious citizens, not officials or politicians, "he said.
The application was referred to the Committee on Education, Culture and Sports, chaired by Councilman Manuel Saavedra, who reaffirmed his support for all initiatives in defense of freedom of expression such as heading the Press. He also asserted that the way to fight against discrimination from the Mayor is to work and provide services to everyone equally. "We are ready to push a Press Tribunal to ensure the freedom of Press and Journalism's ethical performance. We hope to hear the arguments of journalists to the public hearing Thursday, "he said.
"the court must look not 'metamos leg' "
At the meeting with the Selectmen, Roberto Carlos Hurtado said that the journalists are concerned about the promulgation of the Law on Combating Racism and All Forms of Discrimination, especially in its Articles 16 and 23 that violate the right to freedom of expression. "We request a public hearing to let them know our concern over this issue and support the creation of Printing Jury, as a regular form of journalistic work, the same as is stipulated in the Press Law," he said Hurtado, a time to argue that the establishment of that tribunal is of great importance especially for citizens who feel affected in their rights, "this Court will have to assess whether crime has been committed on Printing, we want this jury also has another role, which is more educational and not just coercion. Have to watch that people do not 'metamos leg', because freedom of speech has its limits, "he acknowledged. (...)

For a start to put justice in the hands of citizens. Desos Good luck and go! (IFP)
